MIDDLEBORO------Dr. Alfred F. Saad, 74, of Middleboro, formerly of Brockton and Lebanon, died February 9, 2012 in Boston after a period of failing health. He
was the husband of Carol (Saade) Saad of Middleboro.
Born in Kfarselwan, Lebanon on November 17, 1937, a son of the late Fares and Takla (Mahfouz) Saad, he was raised Lebanon. He earned a License en S-lettre (Equivalent of B.A.), in Arabic Literature from St. Joseph Jesuit University, Beirut, Lebanon in 1962 and continued his education, receiving a PhD in Middle Eastern Literature from Sorbonne University Paris, France in 1968.
Highly proficient in both Arabic and French, he was currently working on mastering English. Dr. Saad was a Professor of History of Arabic Literature at St. joseph Jesuit University and its Center for Living Languages, Beirut, Lebanon for 1972-1988. From 1988-Present he was a Poet, Writer, Literary Author and Critic, Columnist and Editorial Commentator, and Educational, Political and Policy Analyst.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Sandra Saad Mandell and her husband Matthew of Forest Hills, NY., Wassim Saad and his wife Mariette of Middleboro and Vedette Saad of Brockton; his siblings, Emil, Wadiha, Zarifee, Albert, and Margo all of Lebanon; and three grandchildren, Eva, Oliver and Carol.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 605 Washington Street (Rte.138), Easton, on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by The Liturgy of the Devine Mysteries at St. Theresa Maronite Catholic Church, 345 North Main Street, Brockton, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
