EASTON----Retired neurosurgeon, Dr. Theodore Castro (Ted) Dela Cruz, 82, of East Lansing, MI passed away after a long illness on August 14, 2021 in Boston, MA. Funeral Service will be held in Mansfield on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. with Fr. Michael McManus of St. Mary's Church officiating. Kane Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.

Ted was born in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines to Teodoro and Ana Castro Dela Cruz on April 17, 1939. He graduated from medical school at Far Eastern University in 1961. A few years later, as an intern at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, OH, he met the love of his life, Milagros. Ted completed his residencies in neurosurgery at Boston City Hospital in Boston, MA and Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. In 1981, Ted left his private practice in Augusta, ME to bring his family to San Francisco, CA to serve in the U.S. Army at Letterman Army Medical Center's Department of Neurosurgery on the Presidio. He was a Lt. Colonel when he went on reserve and returned to private practice in East Lansing, MI where he remained until he retired in 2009. The couple recently relocated to Templeton, MA to live with one of their daughters.

An avid Boston sports fan, Ted also enjoyed playing tennis and golf over the years with his family and friends.

Devoted husband and father, Ted is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Milagros and their four children and their families: daughter Anna Carmina (Reena) Bates and her husband David Bates of Easton, MA; son Derek Navracruz and his wife Lisa Navracruz of Cleveland Heights, OH; daughter Melinda Melvin and her husband Adam Melvin of Templeton, MA; Edward Dela Cruz and his wife Vatsana Dela Cruz of Somerville, MA. He adored his grandchildren Matthew Bates of Greenville, NY; Abigail Bates of Easton, MA; Magdalena Navracruz of Cleveland Heights, OH; Samuel Navracruz of Cleveland Heights, OH; Max Melvin of Templeton, MA; Jack Melvin of Templeton, MA.
