Taunton -Mary Dorothy "Dottie" (Burns) Russell, 93, formally a resident of Sharon for 52 year, died February 5, 2018 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late William H. Russell (2007).

Born in Dedham, a daughter of the late Michael and Agnes (Monihan) Burns, she was raised in Dedham and was a graduate of Dedham High School. She began her working career during WWII at MIT working in the Lab Division and after the war in the textile industry. She later worked for the Town of Sharon as a secretary in the elementary school system, a position from which she retired after 18 years.

She was a devoted mother and Nana who enjoyed sewing, reading mystery novels, knitting, gardening and also traveling and spending time on the Cape and in Virginia with family. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Easton until moving to Taunton in 2009 to live with her daughter.

Dottie is survived by two daughters, Karen A. Miller (Jay) of Catlett, VA., and Janet A. Elia (Stephen) of Taunton; four grandchildren, Michael W. Wigen (Nicole) of VA., Matthew T. Elia (fiancée Emily) of FL., Victoria C. Elia of TX., and Devon S. Miller (Whitney) of VA.; and three great-grandchildren, Emmelou Wigen, Russell Wigen and Maggie Miller. She was also the sister of the late Lawrence Burns and Leo Burns.

A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at the Immaculate Conception Church in Easton. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Easton. For condolences visit www.kanefuneralhome.com
