FALL RIVER-----Joseph "Skip" Vallon, Sr., 81, of Fall River, formerly of West Bridgewater, died on Wednesday, Feb. 1, after a bout of pneumonia. He was comforted by loved ones.

Skip was born in Brighton on May 31, 1935, and was the son of the late Joseph John Vallon and Sophie Deluco Vallon Will.

He was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School in Easton, where he played baseball and basketball, and was number 44 on the school's football team.

Skip had a variety of jobs — manager at King's Department Store, bartender at the 400 Club, and janitor at West Bridgewater and Southeastern Regional high schools.

He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He was a proud and loving father, and enjoyed coaching his children's baseball and soccer teams. He was delighted during his final years by visits from Oliver, Paula and Jeffrey Ford's spirited Maltese.

Skip is survived by his former wife, Patricia Mahanna Vallon of Madison, Wisconsin, and his seven children — Patricia Gay (Jerry), Carol Belcher, Joseph Vallon, Jr. (Christine), Anthony Vallon, Peter Vallon (Betty Ann), Michael Vallon, and Paula Ford (Jeffrey). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving daughter-in-law Kristina Fronsoe Vallon, Anthony's wife.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Catholic Memorial Home for their kind care and generous service.

Funeral services are private. There will be a celebration of life ceremony in the spring. Arrangements are by Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Easton. For condolences visit www.kanefuneralhome.com.
