EASTON——James J. Friesen, 85, a resident of Easton for the past 63 years, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Good Samaritan Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Marie J. (Carchidi) Friesen.

Born in Munich, North Dakota, a son of the late Jacob and Hilda (Weigel) Friesen, he was raised in Mankato, Minnesota and was a 1949 graduate of Loyola High School where he was valedictorian of his class.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the US Air Force as a Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged.

He continued his education at Northeastern University in Boston where he attended night school for 7 years earning a bachelors degree in engineering. He began working for MIT Lincoln Laboratory and later took a position as an electrical engineer for Sylvania/GTE in Waltham and Needham, retiring after 28 years of service.

A longtime communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Easton, he was a member of the Quarter Century Club of General Dynamics and a past member of the Easton Lions Club.

He had a passion for golf which led him in his retirement to work part-time at Blue Hills Country Club in Canton where he caddied and Pine Oaks Golf Club in Easton where he was a starter. He also enjoyed playing golf at the Easton Country Club as well. His other hobbies included bowling, playing cards and cribbage. He was very proud of his perfect bowling game at Westgate Lanes and he was an avid Boston sports fan who enjoyed watching the New England Patriots, the Celtics and the Boston Red Sox.

James' greatest pleasure was his devotion and time spent with his late wife Marie and his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.

James is survived by his children, Maryann England of Jamestown, RI, Janet Russell of Brockton, Jean Boudreau of Sandwich, James M. Friesen of Wrightstown, NJ., Lisa O'Hearne of Easton, Karen Mills of Easton, Mark Friesen of Sparta, New Jersey, and Joseph Friesen of Stoughton; his siblings, Sister Lynette Friesen of West St. Paul, Minnesota and Patricia French of Rapid City, South Dakota; grandfather of Kate, David , Heather, Sarah, Jenna, Alicia, Jay, Bridget, Lauren, Derek, Kelsey, Colin, Jessica, Jacqueline, Amanda and Olivia; also survived by 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Robert G. Friesen and Luella Bellomo.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services 605 Washington Street (Rte.138) Easton, on Monday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Easton, at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Easton.
