Heart Emblem

Of Easton, MA, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and registered nurse, at 71 lived with grace and courage with a very rare cancer. Beloved wife for over 50 years of Robert W. and much loved mother of Shannon Elliott, and her husband Todd, of Portland OR, and Robert G., and his wife Jennifer, of Raynham, MA, and Erin C. Bruce of Brooklyn, NY. Dear sister of Carolyn M. Evans, and her husband John, of Camarillo, CA, Catherine G. Cates (Deceased), and her brother James D. Cates, and his wife Dawn of Jacksonville. FL.

Cherished grandmother of Colin Elliott and Rhiannon Elliott, Ethan Bruce, Lily Gustafson and Grace Gustafson, together with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A special member of the family is Mandy Bare of St. Louis, MO through the "Be The Match" Program, who donated precious cells twice to extend Ellen's courageous effort over four years, and is honored for her generous gifts. Ellen also leaves her beloved dog, Kedzie, and her grand-dogs, George, Clover, and Zoey.

Born and raised in Providence, RI, Raleigh-Durham NC, and Jacksonville, FL, Ellen was a graduate of Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville. Ellen graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing, specializing in medical-surgical service in area hospitals, school systems, and private office service. A member of The Holy Cross Church of South Easton, MA, she was a tireless advocate for the Multiple Sclerosis Society,and above all, The Dana Farber Cancer Institute of Boston, MA. She cherished travel to Tuscany, Italy with family members.

In lieu of flowers, Ellen has asked that donations be sent to Dr. Philippe Armand, at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Room Dana 2-027, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215, and to The Old Colony Hospice 321 Manley Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379. Also, she offered special recognition to Dr. Eric Jacobsen, NP Katy Stephans, RNs Mary Delaney, and Hannah Freedman, at the DFCI Infusion Center for their grace and special care.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 605 Washington Street (Rte.138) South Easton, MA 02375 on Monday from 4PM to 8PM. A Funeral Mass with be celebrated at The Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase Street, South Easton, MA 02375, at 10AM on Tuesday. Private family internment services will follow later.
