EASTON—-Dora L. (Picarsky) Doherty, 89, a resident of Easton for the past 45 years, died August 10, 2017 at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Joseph T. Doherty.

Born in Jamaica Plain, a daughter of the late Alexander and Louise (Ivanoski) Picarsky, she was raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of the Boston Public Schools. She continued her education at Boston University School of Nursing earning a Bachelor's degree.

Dora was employed as a registered nurse and began her working career at Boston City Hospital and for the Boston Public Health Department. Later, she worked at Goddard Hospital in Stoughton, Cardinal Cushing Hospital of Brockton, Brockton Hospital, Taunton State Hospital and Bridgewater House of Corrections. She was an active member of the Massachusetts Nurses Association.

Dora was actively involved with her grandchildren Emily, Rachel and Jessie. Shortly before her passing, she welcomed her first great-grandchild, Bethany Louise, into the world. She was an avid reader; her hobbies included crossword puzzles, crafts, sudoku, knitting and crocheting, as well as Swedish weaving. She enjoyed participating in activities with the Council of Aging in Easton.

Dora loved animals and had a zest for life. Her true passion was caring for the people she loved. Those who knew her appreciated her dry and clever sense of humor. She proudly shared a Polish heritage with Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots and wore Gronk's jersey while watching Sunday games.

Dora is survived by her children, Paula L. Doherty and her husband Jerry O'Connell of Easton and Ellen F. Vachon and her husband Brian of Milford; grandchildren Emily L. Herrera and her husband Chris of Bellevue, Nebraska, Rachel A. Vachon of Milford, and Jessica L. Vachon of Milford; Dora's great-granddaughter Bethany Louise was born in July of this year.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial Mass on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m in the Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase Street, Easton. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Easton. For directions or condolences, visit
