EASTON——Austin "Mike" Joyce Jr., 84, a resident of Easton for the past 47 years, died Friday, April 28, 2017 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of Eileen T. Joyce for 59 years.

Born in Boston, a son of the late Austin M. and Josephine (Moriarty) Joyce, he was raised in Mattapan and was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. He began working for Boston Edison Company as a mail clerk and shortly after he entered the US Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. Upon honorable discharge he went back to work for Boston Edison and retired in 1994 as a meter reader after 45 years of service to the company.

An avid golfer, he was a past member of the Easton Country Club. He was an avid Boston Sports fan who was devoted to his family.

In addition to his wife Eileen, he is survived by his children, Brian M. Joyce of East Wareham, Gregory F. Joyce and his wife Patty of Brockton, Valerie A. Close of Bridgewater, Stephen A. Joyce of Brockton and Suzanne M. Adams and her husband Jim of Norton; a sister, Marion Hopkins of Marshfield; a brother, Francis Joyce of Weymouth; 8 grandchildren, Brandy Bergeron, Timothy Joyce, Dylan Joyce, Matthew Joyce, Whitney Close, Ryan Close, Savanna Adams, and James Adams; two great grandchildren, Arielle Joyce and Scarlett Riley; also survived by nieces and nephews.
