RAYNHAM—-Alan E. Shepherd, 84, of Raynham, formerly of Brockton and Easton, died Sunday, October 30, 2016, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of Jacqueline A. (Lane) Shepherd for 63 years.

Born in Boston, a son of the late Harold V. and Mary E. (McFarland) Shepherd, he was raised in Wollaston and was a graduate of North Quincy High School. A veteran of the Korean War he served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Marine Corps.

Upon honorable discharge he began working for John Hancock Life Insurance and later took a position as an insurance investigator with the former Standard Service Bureau. He was also employed with the YMCA in Brockton and for 20 years he was employed by the City of Brockton as a meter reader for the Brockton Water Department.

Alan passed one day before his 85th birthday. He was a longtime resident of Brockton prior to moving to Easton and later settling in Raynham.

Alan volunteered for 10 years as a youth baseball coach for the Brockton Pony League. An avid golfer and bowler, he traveled extensively across the United States with his wife and a large group of close friends and relatives.

In addition to his wife, Jacqueline, he is survived by two children, Stephen Shepherd of Scituate and Nancy Dugan of Taunton. Also survived by six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Robert Shepherd and brother of the late Paul Shepherd.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday from 1-2 p.m. in Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services 605 Washington Street (Rte.138) Easton followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in Alan's memory may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN. 38105.
