Louis G. Silva Obituary

EASTON----Louis G Silva, 91, lifelong resident of Easton passed away Thursday, October 28th surrounded by his family.

He is recently predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Jeanne V (Cole) Silva.

In his retirement he enjoyed his time with family and friends. He was an avid sports enthusiast; he enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Patriots and Golf.

Lou spent a lot of his free time camping, golfing, and traveling with his wife, whom he spent all his devoted time with. Holidays and family cookouts in the yard, cooking meat on the stick over his firepit, sitting in his screenhouse and watching the birds and chipmunks were his favorite pastime, as well as sitting in the garage to get his morning sunshine and watch the neighborhood that he had spent the last 63 years in.

He was everyone's friend and also won the most infectious laugh award in 1992. He was loved by many friends, neighbors, and family.

Born in Easton, son of Mary (Vieira) Silva of Easton and John G Silva, he was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School Class of 1949, where he was the class president for 4 years.

He served in the US Army, 28th Infantry Division in the Korean War, Germany and continued to serve until 1954 as Battalion Sergeant.

Lou attended Stonehill College and graduated in 1958 receiving his Bachelor's Degree. He continued his education graduating from Bridgewater State College receiving his Master's Degree in Education.

Retired Director of Welfare after 27 years of dedicated public service. He began his long career in public service in 1965 as the Director of Easton Welfare.

Lou was Commander and past Commander at the Veterans of Foreign War post 2547 Easton. He continued to dedicate his time, supporting his veteran brothers and sisters, by assuring flag placement on gravesites until he reached 90 years young. He was the past Grand Knight of the Easton Knights of Columbus.

Lou leaves behind his children, Louis Silva Jr of Easton, Diane M Silva of Easton, Patricia Allen Lornell of Sandwich, and Susan J Silva Peterson of Sagamore Beach, his much adoreded 11 Grandchildren, and 8 Great Grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, mother, and father, he was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, John Silva Jr, Cecilia Baker, Natalie Taylor, Mary Gilman, and Albert D Silva. Also predeceased by his son-in-law Carl Peterson.

Private wake for Louis will be held at Kane Funeral Home, 605 Washington Street, Easton on Wednesday, November 3. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Mary, Stonehill College 320 Washington Street, Easton followed by interment at South Easton Cemetery.
